Tips on Navigating Fast food
When it comes to fast food, we all have our favorites. Our favorite fast food eateries, our signature food, side, or shake that we simply cannot live without. But what happens when you want to make a lifestyle change that means fast food is a no-go? Well, that’s easier said than done. Living in a world with little free time or at least very little time to leave work, go home, make food, eat it, leave home, and get back to work, fast food may be an inevident lunch choice. Not all is lost though, Soupers. You can continue your healthy lifestyle while riding through a drive through. Here are some fast food hacks to keep you feeling great with #noragrets.
Know the language - Restaurants use appealing language to get you interested in their food but it can also be a huge helper when deciding what to eat when you go out. When an item is described as creamy or buttery, that’s exactly what they are using; cream and butter. These, along with items that are fried generally are high in calories and fat (not the good kind). Avoid language like fried, pan fried, creamed, breaded, or scalloped. Go for grilled, steamed, baked, roasted, blackened and stir fried.
Don’t let salads fool you - Every fast food restaurant has a salad at this point. But this means absolutely nothing regarding how healthy the meal is. In fact, a good amount of restaurant put pull of cheese, bacon, fried bits as well as high fat dressing on top of some greens and call it a salad. As much as we all wish the greens cancelled out the abundance of fat, it doesn’t. Nothing is wrong with some fun salad bits, but keep in mind that this is the perfect opportunity for moderation.
Do not be afraid to ask questions - if the menu isn’t very clear or you’re curious about something on the menu or even if you want to make a change, you can ask your server or restaurant staff. Always be polite but there’s nothing wrong with asking some questions and knowing what you’re about to eat. Don’t be shy, ask away!
Check out the menu before - When you’re new to watching your diet, your healthy intuitive eating may not be fully developed. Do not fear, that’s why most restaurants have their menus online! Especially if you have certain dietary restrictions or eating habits, it’s beneficial to check out the menu before so there’s no concern about whether or not you’ll be able to eat that day!
